OLLIE GILSTRAP
A distinguished leader and educator who has dedicated her life to the empowerment of women and the advancement of education.
Ollie’s journey in professional development began at AT&T, where she held numerous positions in Human Resources over a 24-year career, eventually retiring in November 2000. Her roles included Regional Tuition Administrator, Consultant-Survivor Benefits, and Manager of Disability Services, each of which prepared her for her future endeavors in education and leadership.
Shortly after her retirement, Ollie transitioned to academia, joining Dallas Baptist University (DBU). At DBU, she serves as an Academic Advisor in the Graduate School of Business and teaches a graduate internship course. Her approach to education is deeply rooted in her belief in servant leadership, which she describes as providing "fulfilling emotional, psychological, and spiritual rewards." Her dedication is evident in the profound impact she has on her students, many of whom maintain relationships with her long after graduation.
Currently serving as the 19th Governor of the South-Central District of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc., Ollie oversees clubs in seven states, including Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Her leadership extends beyond organizational boundaries, fostering a community focused on growth, support, and empowerment.
Ollie’s contributions to civic leadership and educational advancement have not gone unnoticed. She was honored with the Educational Excellence Award from the Dallas County Peace Officers Association, recognizing her efforts in promoting educational development and raising educational standards.
Beyond her professional and academic roles, Ollie is a community leader and a family woman. Married to Preston, she is a mother and grandmother, cherishing her time with her family. Her personal interests include reading, traveling, and enjoying the arts, which complement her vibrant and fulfilling career.
